Hey, Runatic!
October 11 brings the 48th Chicago Marathon. Race information
Marathon history has been rewritten here: in 1984, Steve Jones set a world record of 2:08:05. In 1999, Khalid Khannouchi became the first man under 2:06, running 2:05:42. In 2023, Kelvin Kiptum ran a new world record of 2:00:35, taking 34 seconds off the previous mark. Record history
Kiptum averaged 2:51 per kilometer for all 42.195 km.
But your first checkpoint comes before the start. In Chicago, you must collect your race packet in person and bring photo ID. A friend cannot collect your bib, and there is no pickup on race day. Expo time belongs in your marathon plan. Race packet pickup rules
A bonus: runners aged 21 and over get a bib voucher for a post-race beer. A race bib has a surprising number of jobs.
