Motorcyclists and rock fans get tattoos when the feeling is too big to keep inside. Runners do it too. After my first marathon, I had a little wing like Hermes' tattooed on my right ankle, beside the number 42.2. A reminder to stay light on my feet. Now the left ankle has a matching wing and 21.1, for balance. Friends have tattoos marking their most memorable marathons. I like that. A declaration of lasting love.
